Horsington is set in beautiful open countryside in southeast Somerset, close to the Wiltshire and Dorset borders. Transport links are excellent with a main line station at nearby Templecombe, offering a regular service to London, Waterloo, whilst trains run to Paddington in about 1 hour 40 minutes from Castle Cary, which is approximately 9 miles to the north. The area is also readily accessible by road with the A303 only 4 miles away providing fast access to the M3 and London (about 114 miles). Bristol airport can be reached in an hour, and Heathrow in only 1.5 hours.
The abbey towns of Sherborne and Shaftesbury are all within a few miles distance and offer a good range of shops and everyday facilities. The city of Wells boasts arguably the most beautiful cathedral in Europe and is within easy reach of Horsington. Bath is a delightful place to spend a day with its excellent shops and Roman and Georgian history. For those who prefer something more modern the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and Haynes Motor museums are both less than half an hour’s drive to the west. The cities of Salisbury and Bristol can be reached within an hour, as can the south coast resort of Poole. Adjacent to Poole is the beautiful National Trust owned Studland beach. The local area offers much to the sporting enthusiast with good walking, riding, cycling (we have a selection of bikes of all sizes) and golf, for example. There are racecourses at Wincanton, Salisbury and Taunton along with a number of established shoots in the vicinity.
This part of the West Country boasts many excellent pubs which provide locally brewed beers, and ciders and offer delicious food. And, of course, you are in the heart of Cheddar cheese country.
